You can play a standard vertically spitscreen game (it's always vertically split, not horizontally). The second thing you'll notice is that you can adjust the split-screen function in two ways. Your choice - and a very nice one at that. You can play the whole game together with a friend, or play, say 95% of it alone, and then have a friend jump in to finish it off. Two Views When you boot up the brawler on Xbox or PS2, the most convenient thing about co-op is that the second player can jump in and out of the single-player game at any time with no awkward or unfortunate consequence. But the co-op play elevates this one to a new place. Rockstar says it realizes its games share a "creative thread," which manifests in The Warriors with stealthy Manhunt gameplay and GTA-like character-building mini-games, to name a few. That it's very much its own game with individual pacing, feel, and style, yet it's also an amalgamation of Rockstar's collective gameplay techniques wrapped into a new title. I played through a few levels last night and realized that The Warriors is both simple and complicated. Like any good game incorporating cooperative play, the two-person co-op function easily doubles the replay value, depth, and pure fun factor of this $49.99, M-rated action game, due to ship October 17 (next week!).
